Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy

In this video, Adam Kibel, MD, the Chief of Urology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, demonstrates a partial nephrectomy using the DaVinci robotic surgical system. The indications for partial nephrectomy and the rationale for removing only part of the kidney instead of the entire kidney are briefly discussed. This minimally invasive robotic technique allows precise and careful resection of the tumor without removing the surrounding normal kidney tissue.  Even complex tumors, that previously had to be removed with an large incision, can be removed with marked decrease in pain and blood loss.
